On the west side of Oia there are two windmills that catch the eye of anyone in the area and of course, are one of the most famous photo spots on Instagram. The colours of the sky and the sunset behind the windmills are truly something magical to behold. Our top tip if you are interested in proposing at the windmills is to consider doing it during the daytime, it is just as beautiful and much less crowded.
The ideal Santorini wedding proposal does not necessarily have to include a caldera view. Several alternatives take your breath away with their uniqueness and views of the other side of the island. At the top of Mount Profitis Ilias, the Monastery of Profitis Ilias is one of the oldest churches on the island. It is about 3 km from the village of Pyrgos and since it is located at the highest point of the island, it offers stunning views.
The wines of Santorini are unique due to the climate and the volcanic soil of the island and the wineries of Santorini are top class. Your visit to any of the wineries will leave you with a sweet feeling as if you were drinking Santorini by the glass. There is a simply beautiful lighthouse at the southwestern tip of the island. The lighthouse is a unique place to admire from a boat and is a popular spot on both our private and small group catamaran cruises. Those of you that choose to visit by land however are sure to be enchanted by the paradise that stretches out in front of you. Akrotiri is about 50 minutes drive from Oia or a 25-minute drive from Fira and you can park your car along the road near the lighthouse. There is a hill behind the lighthouse that you can easily climb with stairs carved into the hillside. The view is quite magical at sunset with the sun slowly slipping behind the outline of the lighthouse. In our opinion, a fantastic place to propose while in Santorini!
Eros (suitably named after the god of love) is a beautiful, secluded beach in the southern part of Santorini. Dominated by dark sand, it is the continuation of the beach of Vlychada and is 9 km from Fira. The beach is organised at the beginning but past the facilities you will find many quiet spots perfect for your special moment. With the stunning white-brown rocks that surround the beach, Eros is one of the most enchanting places on the island. And what better way to top off your perfect proposal than to go for a swim in the clear waters of the Aegean Sea!
Skaros was considered the most important of the five fortresses of the castle on Santorini. The rock was inhabited in medieval times because the fortress built there offered ample protection from pirates. Take a short hike from Imerovigli all the way up to the top where you will find stunning views that set the stage for a truly epic Santorini proposal. The view from the rock is unobstructed, the sea is endless, and the moment will be unforgettable. A monastery, known as the Chapel of Panagia Theoskepasti remains in use until today just below Skaros Rock. It is truly a unique place on the island to propose.
